The drive is only MB. I wanted to create my own recovery partition but am now confused as to why this is here when the new Windows wants us to create external recovery media. Windows hides the system reserved partition by default instead of creating a drive letter for it. Most people will never notice they have a System Reserved partition, and Windows will only show it to you when you use disk-partitioning software. You cannot delete the System Reserved partition. It will involve messing with the registry, copying various files between drives, updating the BCD store, and making the main system drive the active partition.

This may lead to damages and a risk that Windows might end up corrupting itself. I order to prevent the system reserved partition to be created during installation, follow the below steps. Type diskpart into the Command Prompt window and press Enter.

Create a new partition in the unallocated space using the diskpart tool. Continue the setup process. Hope the above information was helpful. In reply to A. User’s post on August 23, Thank you for the reply. I understand that it has the hidden system reserved partition which has the components you described, but what I am trying to figure out is what the deal is with the additional automatically installed partition on the drive that is labeled specifically as RECOVERY but is only MB in size.

Why is it there and what does it contain? This drive is also hidden but is it something we could boot from or access with a hotkey in the result of a system failure? This site in other languages x.

Select the partition with the current installation (usually “Drive 0”) and click the Delete tip: If “Drive 0” has multiple. No need to create a new partition, just delete the existing partitions at which point they should be listed as “Unallocated” space during the Windows 10 install.
